Flags of Our Fathers (2006)

Plot: In February, 1945, one of the fiercest battles of the Pacific theater of World War II occurs on the tiny island of Iwo Jima. Thousands of Marines attack the stronghold maintained by thousands of Japanese, and the slaughter on both sides is horrific. Early in the battle, an American flag is raised atop the high point, Mount Suribachi, and a photograph of the raising becomes an American cause celebre. As a powerful inspiration to war-sick Americans, the photo becomes a symbol of the Allied cause. The three surviving flag raisers, Rene Gagnon, John Bradley, and Ira Hayes, are whisked back to civilization to help raise funds for the war effort. But the accolades for heroism heaped upon the three men are at odds with their own personal realizations that thousands of real heroes lie dead on Iwo Jima, and that their own contributions to the fight are only symbolic and not deserving of the singling out they are experiencing. Each of the three must come to terms with the honors, exploitation, and grief that they face simply for being in a photograph.

Yes, flags of our fathers is who I am speaking of. He blocks people so that they can’t respond to his questions because he doesn’t like opposing view points.
There are other names for southerners who don’t seem to know the Civil War is over, and THEY LOST. Most of them can’t be used here. In most of their minds–such as they are!–only minorities and people of color can be "racist". So from their point of view, they aren’t. Of course, they don’t generally know the meaning of the term "reactionary", which generally DOES describe their actual beliefs accurately.
But generally, yes, they seem to be racists, by the traditional definition of the term. One of the great cover stories excusing the "Stars ‘n’ Bars" is that "the war was about state’s rights", but of course, the Kansas/Missouri question and the others which precipitated the conflict were all about SLAVERY and INEQUALITY in general.
But of course, they don’t care about that.

there were slave states that didn’t join the confederacy, so according to your logic, showing the US flag would also be racist. i guess also the british, spanish, french, and every other slave holding nations flags are racists also.

I agree with the other poster who mentioned the logic of the US flag once representing slave owning states.
to those rich in southern heritage, its their history…it does not mean they are racists. My father has old confederate money…but that hardly groups him into the racist category (he is not even from the south).
